Heat swarms across the kingdoms, making the days more and more uncomfortably warm. Evenings offer little respite, though early mornings can be comfortably cool. Arid regions will radiate with dry heat, while regions where greenery is prevalent will be stifled by humidity.

If you can manage it, stay indoors or in the shade as much as possible, or - better yet - only come out in the wee hours of the morning.

Site-Wide Events by Season: WINTER

  1. FESTIVAL OF LIGHT
    • Celebrated during the longest night of the year, which occurs sometime between late December and early January on a slightly different night every year, the Festival of Light is observed Kingdom-wide.
      • Upper-Class & Royalty have begun changing the traditions slightly in the past several decades. They hold a party that lasts all night, ending ostensibly when the yellow star rises, and during this party they hold a great feast, exchange gifts (more white elephant-style, though every visitor brings a gift for the party's host as well as those to whom they are particularly close, and the party's host creates small gift baskets for each visitor), drink and dance until the star-rise.
      • Other Classes have maintained the tradition of sharing a great meal with family and their closest friends as the yellow star sets. This is likely to be a smaller feast, meant to represent their care for those with whom they share it, and meant to conserve resources in case the Fae prevent the yellow star from ever rising again. The latter is an old superstition, however, and few today believe it possible. Gifts are often exchanged between lovers, though some parents with more means will give more practical gifts to their children, as well. These smaller gatherings will include drinking and dancing and games and story-telling before a fire, everyone passing the time and enjoying the company of friends as they await the rising of the yellow star.
      • It is tradition for all classes to hold hands with those loved ones you do not want to lose as the yellow star moves from bellow the horizon to visibility in the morning. This stems from an old superstition about the Fae, and is said to prevent any switching of places with one the Fae might use against you or with one for whom you care deeply and do not want to lose.

  2. WINTER STORMS: End of December thru January
    • If you are a traveler, few airships are willing to brave the winter storms, and those that do risk being blown off course or losing their way in the dense fogs and snowstorms throughout the month. Most airship captains will ground their ships for the duration of the stormy season, or only take short trips during breaks in bad weather.
    • If you are not a traveler, these storms create shortages in supplies, and a demand for firewood and other materials necessary to maintain constant fires within homes. If you are a person of means, this is a simple matter of sending a servant out earlier in the season to stock up on supplies. If you are not a person of means, this can get expensive if you do not make the supplies stretch, or if your way of earning a living dries up.

Site-Wide Events by Season: SPRING

  1. SCATTERED SHOWERS: March through May
    • The inclement weather that swept through the southern kingdoms last Spring is not a yearly affair. Those who are native to Aethaldrin, Lux, Sky City, and the nearby In-Between places will not be surprised by this change from the previous year. They know how the weather patterns work in their areas.

Still, those who make their livelihoods growing and transporting crops will miss the heavy rains of the last spring season, and are likely to mention it in many a conversational complaint despite their knowledge of the area's weather patterns.

Others, especially those who travel frequently, will enjoy the relative freedom not permitted the previous season, as there will be very little weather preventing travel.

    • On days it does rain, however, those caught out in it will be drenched in short order. This rain will come on suddenly, and end just as abruptly, like a faucet switched onto high and then quickly off again. Clouds are not always present to warn of these sudden downpours, either, so it is best to remain prepared, if possible.

Site-Wide Events by Season: SUMMER
  • 1. SUMMER'S CREST FESTIVAL: First Week of June
    • It is time again for the yearly Summer's Crest festival. After months of rain and bad weather, this festival is a chance for most people to let loose and have some fun, while hoping for a bountiful summer. Though the event has similar themes in the cities and clans, there are a few things that differ from place to place.
    • THE CITIES have masquerades. People don masks and head into the streets or to the big ball, giving them a chance to put their usual personalities behind them and be someone else for a while. Alternatively, this is a good opportunity for pick-pockets and other scoundrels to get their fill, which also increases security.
    • IN ANDALUSYTE the masquerade is held in the city's theatre. With its wide, arching staircases and crystal chandeliers it is the perfect venue to watch the festival's performers, both those from the Night Circus as well as those from elsewhere. Raised stages will be set up for these performers so that they can be more easily viewed. Remember that all seemingly magical displays are still strictly prohibited, and the Black Coats will be extra vigilant during this time. Because the performances are free, many people will filter in from all over the kingdom.
    • IN SKY CITY lawlessness gets almost free reign. Travellers and performers not welcome in Aethaldrin and Lux come to Sky City to perform, illegal wares are sold and on display, and prostitutes walk the streets for business wearing even less than usual.
    • Those from Aethaldrin will remember the festivals IN ELARA, where the masquerade is almost an antithesis of the celebration in Lux: colours abound, magic is freely performed (there are even a few competitions for fae-born amongst them), and the event takes place outside in the streets.
Those from THE CLANS will remember/ experience more tempered celebrations, often resulting in an evening or night of storytelling and folk music around a bonfire.
    • IN PETRA holds a celebration that begins at dusk and ends at dawn. Before this, however, each member of the clan is given a task involving harvesting food, preparing the land for new crops, and protecting the newly collected water from outside invaders. Once these tasks are finished, there follows a rare evening of celebration and freedom, though with little excess. These often involve eating and drinking slightly more than is usually necessary, relaxing in steam tents rather than simply washing and moving on, and telling tales long into the night around a large bonfire.
    • IN VERDURA there are several feasts throughout the year. This one celebrates the end of the rains. Each family crafts their own masks however they like - some use it to show off their skills in their particular area of mastery. During this celebration, unpromised young men and women expect to make a move with the one on whom they've set their sights. The masks and the spiced ale often aid those who would otherwise be afraid to say anything, and many matches are made during the week following the celebration. All throughout, games are played, songs are sung, dances are encouraged, both group affairs as well as individual pairs (though the latter moreso as the sun goes down and the party begins to wind down a bit). Every Summer's Crest Celebration is concluded with stories told over a great fire in the midst of the little tree city - told by memory by the oldest amongst them.
    • IN ZEPHANIA, the cave society that doesn't notice much of these sorts of things, there is only an echo of this celebration as a result of their surface ancestors. They have a gathering where they feast and attempt to incite the good will of the Zepha. It is considered a good sign if one's wife eats a large meal at this feast, and partnering with her afterwards is encouraged for it is believed that strong sons are born from these unions.
